Emir Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that his party will not support amendments to the Army Act. Addressing a press conference here on Friday after chairing a meeting of central Majlis-e-Amla (central working committee) of JUI-F, the Maulana while rejecting any legislation by the current Parliament said that all the parties including JUI-F have never accepted the outcome of the 2018 general election and, therefore, the current assemblies have no right to pass any legislation.

The Maulana said that after the results of the 2018 general election, all the parties have rejected its outcome and even took oath as a protest, therefore voting in favor, against or remaining absent from the entire process means accepting the results of the 2018 general election. "We have not accepted these assemblies based on stolen mandate and votes, so we reckon any law passed by the current parliament will not be legitimated," he said.

The Maulana while expressing serious concerns over the "abduction" of people said those who dare to talk about rule of law and supremacy of Constitution are being picked up by the different departments.

Responding to a question, he said the leaders of the opposition in both the houses are from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz but PML-N has not consulted with him. He said that the Armed Forces as well as Army Chief are respectable for every Pakistani and no one should try to make army controversial. He maintained that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has made every effort to make army controversial.

The JUI-F chief said the Supreme Court of Pakistan had ordered to remove weaknesses in terms of extension of Army Chief's tenure but the government instead of addressing the imperfections is adding flaws to the whole process. "We will not allow a fake assembly to pass such legislation," he said and added his party will not become part of the legislative process for passing the Army Act (Amendment) Bill.

Fazl went on to say that PML-N and PPP extended support to the bill but the JUI-F condemns the move. He said both parties should have taken other political parties into confidence over the matter before reaching a decision. "Taking part in voting will be equal to supporting the fake assembly," he added. He said in order to carry out such legislation there should be a conducive and democratic environment. He said that the Army Chief's service extension matter should not be politicized keeping in view the dignity of the state institution.
