Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide Rs.435.729 million funding in the form of technical contribution for "Improvement of Livelihood & Well Being of Female Home Based Workers (FHBWs) in Informal Sector in Sindh".

The contribution from JICA is 80.5 percent of the total cost of the project whereas Sindh Government will put in Rs.26 million as part of its share in this project.

The project will be launched in Karachi, Sukkur, Shikarpur and Khairpur districts of the province. The long-term objective of the project is to improve livelihood and well-being of female home based workers in Sindh with economic empowerment of women so that they could more effectively contribute towards poverty reduction and economic development of Sindh.

In order to achieve the long-term objective, the project will design, pilot and develop innovative livelihood improvement models for female home-based workers through strategic public-private partnership between Women Development Department Sindh and other related key stakeholders. The models will be piloted in Karachi, Sukkur, Shikarpur and Khairpur which were identified through detailed research undertaken through various surveys.

The knowledge accumulated through innovative models development process will be compiled in the form of a Tool Kit (i.e. document containing all relevant concepts, strategies, approaches, guidelines, modules, visual aids etc.) that would be utilized by WDD and other potentially interested public and private organizations for scaling up, continuous livelihood improvement, and economic empowerment of women in other districts of Sindh during project implementation and beyond project life.

At the end of the project period, the number of FHBWs and their family members who would have benefited from the Project is estimated to be approximately 6,800 in four years.

The current economic and social condition of the country needs quick reforms in technical and vocational education and training sector. This project is a tool to bring improvement in livelihood of FHBWs through skill development. The project aims at providing quality technical and vocational training opportunities for the development of technical workforce in the country.
