A delegation of senior leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Monday called on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Emir Maulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss matters related to amendment to the Army Act.

The PML-N delegation included Punjab Chapter President Rana Sanaullah, former speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, MNA Rana Tanveer Hussian and former deputy speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi. Both the parties discussed matters related to amendment to the Army Act and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Ordinance, to which Fazlur Rehman has already taken clear stance with rejecting any extension to the Army Chief. Neither PML-N leaders nor Maulana Fazlur Rehman talked to the media persons on the occasion.

Maulana has announced that his party will not vote in favor of the Army Act (Amendment) Bill. According to sources, Maulana Fazlur Rehman confessed to the divisions in opposition and said that he phoned Shahbaz Sharif and complained that the opposition was not taken into confidence by the PML-N. Visiting PML-N delegation also tried to clarify their position on the matters.

Maulana has maintained that there are many ambiguities in the draft law and the urgency, with which the legislation is being passed, will create more ambiguity. The government did not discuss the proposed bill with the opposition. He further said that they haven't changed their position. If the law can be passed in 6 months, the assembly can be dissolved and new elections can also be held.

On the other day, a delegation of PML-Q under the leadership of Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi also called on JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to convince him to not oppose the amendments to the Army Act. According to sources, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi along with his delegation met JUI-F chief at his residence to convince him for supporting the key bill regarding extension in tenure of the Army Chief, but Maulana refused to do so.

Maulana said that voting in favor of the bill is out of question; however he hasn't decide to vote in opposition or stay neutral. He said that he has informed Chaudhry Brothers about his position that legislation can also be made by electing a new parliament. He urged opposition to take a joint stance on this issue.
