Federal Government released Rs 2 billion in the first six months of current financial year for Greenline Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), Karachi.

The federal government wants to inaugurate Greenline Bus project on February 7, 2020 as announced by Governor Sindh Imran Ismail announced at a press conference previous week. The inauguration of the project by February 07, 2020 would require the federal government's intervention to release the remaining amount of the allocated funds for the project in Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2019-20.

In PSDP for the current fiscal, the government set aside Rs 2.750 billion for the project.

The project carried the throw-forward of Rs 3.437 billion at the start of the current financial year after the federal government spent Rs 21.166 billion in the last few years. The total cost of the project is Rs 24.604 billion, which was launched by the previous government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to facilitate the people of Karachi in public transport sector.
