The Punjab government has raised some objections to a medical report attached with an appeal of the former premier Nawaz Sharif seeking extension in his bail in the light of the Islamabad High Court's (IHC) decision.

On behalf of the former PM, an appeal was filed with the Home Department Punjab on December 24 seeking extension is his bail. Nawaz was granted bail for six weeks, which ended on December 25.

The home department Punjab has asked the former premier to send his latest medical report. A medical board formed to consider the matter will then review the report and the decision to extend Sharif's bail will be taken.

It may be noted the IHC had directed Nawaz Sharif to apply to the Punjab government for further relief under Section 401(2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.PC), 1898. It was declared by the IHC that unless the provincial government decides the matter while taking up the application, and Sharif's bail would remain intact until it is decided otherwise by the provincial authorities.

On November 19, Nawaz Sharif arrived in London, three weeks after he was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court in the Al-Azizia case on medical grounds, along with his brother Shahbaz Sharif after the government and courts granted him permission to travel abroad.

Terming the reports of Nawaz Sharif 'insufficient,' the Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid told the media that the former PM did not undergo any treatment in past six weeks and the government did not receive his latest medical reports.

Dr Yasmin Rashid said that Nawaz's physician in London, David R Lawrence, had sent a letter which was "very similar" to the summary earlier issued by the government regarding the former premier's health.
