  •  United Nations Security Council held a meeting on Kashmir and reviewed the situation in the valley.
  • "Today’s discussions have once again reaffirmed its international dispute status and the urgency to resolve it in accordance with UNSC resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people," the FM said.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi met United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Antonio Guterres in New York and briefed the UN chief about the humanitarian crisis and the reign of terror unleashed on innocent Kashmiris by India since August 5,2019.

During their meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on developments in the region. Guterres reiterated the importance of maintaining peace and stability in South Asia through political dialogue, diplomatic solutions and respect for human rights.

"Today’s discussions have once again reaffirmed its international dispute status and the urgency to resolve it in accordance with UNSC resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people," the FM wrote on his Twitter handle.

The FM also met the President of the UN General Assembly, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande. Although the UNSC meeting took place behind closed doors, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Jun confirmed to the media that the council had reviewed the situation in the valley.

Qureshi, who is currently on a mission to defuse tensions between the United States and Iran, reached New York on Wednesday afternoon and met UN leaders before proceeding to Washington.
