Court sends Ahsan Iqbal to jail on judicial remand
- The court has ordered that the former interior minister be presented on February 4.
- NAB arrested the PML-N leader on December 23.
An accountability court sent on Monday Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz Leader Ahsan Iqbal to jail on judicial remand in the multi-billion-rupee case relating to the controversial Sports City Project in Narowal.
During the hearing, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) requested the court an extension in the physical remand of Iqbal, however, the court rejected the request. The court instead sent the former interior minister on 14-day judicial remand. It has ordered that the PML-N leader be presented before the court on February 4, local media reported. Iqbal has been allowed to meet his family members and to have food made from his home.
NAB arrested the PML-N leader on December 23. He was summoned to record his statement in the case when he was arrested. The bureau has accused Iqbal of using funds of the federal government and the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) for a sports city being established in Narowal — a multi-billion-rupee project.
Following his arrest, NAB presented Iqbal before the accountability court after which the bureau was given physical remand of Iqbal.
