  • Travel advisories serve as barometers of a country’s tourism, says Bukhari.
  • On Friday, United Kingdom changed its travel advice to reflect the improved security situation in Pakistan.

Special Advisor to Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Syed Zulfi Bukhari has said he is optimistic that the United States would follow the footsteps of United Kingdom and change its travel advisory for Pakistan.

In a tweet, SAPM Bukhari said, “Travel advisories serve as barometers of a country’s tourism. Super glad for UK revising it for Pakistan, just shows how misinterpreted Pakistan has been all these years and how it hasn’t gotten it’s fair share of attention. I’m confident and hopeful US would be next to change theirs”.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday termed the change in travel advice by the United Kingdom a great news and said it would address two most important economic issues facing Pakistan today – employment and current account deficit.

“This is great news as it will address two most important economic issues facing Pakistan today: employment and our current account deficit, by bringing in tourism and investment which in turn will provide employment opportunities especially for our youth," the prime minister said in his twitter message.

On Friday, the United Kingdom changed its travel advice to reflect the improved security situation in Pakistan.

The announcement to this effect came from British High Commissioner to Pakistan Dr Christian Turner in a video message posted on his Twitter handle in Urdu and English. “Pakistan is very beautiful and I am very delighted that in my first video message I am giving you good news," he said in the video message.

The British High Commissioner further said, “Thanks to the improving security situation that UK has changed its travel advice for Pakistan. Among other changes, the advice now allows by road travel to the north of country,” Christian Turner remarked.
