Davos summit: Billionaire George Soros hits out at Modi for creating a ‘Hindu nationalist state’

Billionaire philanthropist George Soros, in his speech World Economic Forum in Davos, said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is creating a Hindu nationalist state and is threatening to deprive millions of Muslims of their citizenship.
During the summit in Davos, Switzerland, Soros said that the nationalism far from being reverse is making further headway in the world, and the biggest and most frightening setback came in India under Modi's governance.
"Modi is creating a Hindu nationalist state, imposing punitive measures on Kashmir, a semi-autonomous Muslim region and threatening to deprive millions of Muslims of their citizenship," Soros said.
The Indian PM has come under criticism for his government's decision to revoke the special status granted to Indian-occupied Kashmir and imposing a curfew there. Economist has also slammed Modi for dividing the world's largest democracy'.
The Indian government has also passed the Citizenship Amendment Act and updated the Assam National Register of Citizens (NRC) which stripped off the citizenship of 1.9 million people, mostly Muslims.
