FM, US envoy agree to continue joint efforts for Afghan peace

US Special Envoy for Afghan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi agreed on Friday on joint efforts to address the Afghan peace process.
The US envoy arrived in Pakistan on a day-long visit today. According to a press release from the Foreign Office, Khalilzad briefed the FM about the most recent talks with Taliban. He also praised Pakistan's efforts for peace in Afghanistan.
The FM assured him that Pakistan will continue to support efforts to bring peace in Afghanistan. The FM added that finalisation of a peace treaty between Taliban and the US will pave the way for inter-Afghan dialogue, adding that it would not only benefit Afghanistan but the whole region.
The two sides agreed to continue a consultative series on joint efforts to address the Afghan peace process.
