  • Thailand has 19 confirmed cases for coronavirus infection.

Thailand has claimed that they have successfully treated one Wuhan coronavirus patient with a combination of antiviral drugs.

According to a briefing on Sunday from the Thailand's Ministry of Health, a doctor at Rajavithi Hospital in Bangkok Dr.Kriangsak Atipornwanich, said he treated a 71-year-old woman who was in a serious condition with the deadly coronavirus, Bloomberg reported.

The drugs, originally used for HIV and influenza treatment, were a success as within 48 hours the patient’s condition improved very quickly. “I had treated a patient with severe condition, and the result has been very satisfactory. The patient’s condition has improved very quickly within 48 hours. And the test result has also changed from being positive into negative within 48 hours as well,” CNN quoted Atipornwanich.

Officials at the press conference said the latest lab test has showed there is no trace of the virus in the patient’s respiratory system. There have been 19 confirmed cases for coronavirus infection in Thailand. It is monitoring 311 possible cases in hospitals as of Sunday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Chanvirakul has announced that they will repatriate more than 100 people from Wuhan on February. 4 after they pass medical screening in China. After their return to Thailand, the people will then be quarantined for 14 days.
