The Punjab government is planning to launch a massive anti-encroachment drive in Murree to resolve growing traffic-related issues besides restoring natural beauty of the hilly area. This was disclosed by Provincial Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed while chairing the meeting of Murree Improvement Trust (MIT) here on Sunday.
An official said the minister took various decisions pertaining to the improvement of Murree and its residents. He said that provision of water supply, removal of encroachments, solution of traffic issues and constructions of buildings under MIT scheme came under discussion. "After detailed deliberations, it was decided that the bulk water supply scheme for Murree would be completed through Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority," he added.
Talking to the participants, the minister said that provision of clean water to the residents of Murree was among his top priories and uninterrupted water supply would be ensured. "In order to restore natural beauty of this hilly-area, an anti-encroachment campaign would be launched. A parking space would also be created near Jheeka Galli to help resolve traffic problems."
Rasheed said that smooth flow of traffic is imperative to avoid traffic jams, especially during weekends and holidays. He instructed that maps of the residences in MIT Schemes should be approved without delay to facilitate legalized construction of buildings in the area. He also directed to complete boundary walls of the scheme as early as possible.
