Prices of perishable food items and fruits have witnessed a decline during this past week compared to the week before, according to a survey conducted by Business Recorder in the federal capital on Saturday.
However, no significant change was observed in the prices of non-perishable food items during the period, which over the past few months have witnessed a noticeable increase especially sugar, ghee/cooking oil, wheat flour, pulses, spices, tea, milk and others.
Traders at wholesale grain market told this correspondent that distributors of two top packed milk suppliers Nestle and Olpers had informed them of the likelihood of another increase of up to Rs 10 per pack, saying price of Milk Pak of Rs 30 will increase to Rs 40 per pack within next three days.
During the week under review, egg and chicken prices have also witnessed a reduction as eggs price in wholesale market came down from Rs100 per dozen to Rs 97 per dozen, which in retail are being sold at Rs105 per dozen against Rs 110 per dozen.
Similarly, price of live chicken went down from Rs 190 per kg to Rs 175 per kg and chicken meat from Rs 300 per kg to Rs 280 per kg. Sugar price in the wholesale market has jumped up from Rs 3,800 per 50kg bag to Rs 3,980 per 50kg bag, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 85 per kg.
However, prices of ghee/cooking oil during the period witnessed no change. During the week, prices of vegetables witnessed a declining trend as tomato price went down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 175 per 5kg, which in retail market are being sold at Rs 45 per kg after a decrease of Rs 5.
Similarly, price of onions increased from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 230 per 5kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 55/60 per kg against Rs 50 per kg and potatoes prices increased from Rs 150 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 50 per kg as against Rs 40 per kg previously.
Prices of all major pulses remained stable as fine quality white lentil (maash) is available at Rs 250 per kg, normal quality lentil at Rs 220 per kg, fine quality gram pulse is being sold at Rs 200 per kg and normal quality grams at Rs 180 per kg, fine quality kidney bean (lobia) is being sold at Rs 200 per kg, green gram (moong) at Rs 240 per kg and red fine quality lentil (masoor) at Rs 200 per kg.
No changes were witnessed in ghee/cooking oil prices as normal quality ghee/cooking oil was available at Rs 175 per kg pack, while best quality ghee/cooking oil was being sold at Rs 230 per litre.
Garlic price went up from Rs 1,200 per 5kg to Rs 1,350 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 380 per kg as against Rs 350 per kg previously. Moreover, ginger price is stable at Rs 1,500 per 5kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 400 per kg.
Capsicum price went down from Rs 600 per 5kg to Rs 500 per 5kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 120 per kg as against Rs 130-145 per kg previously. Similarly, yam (arvi) price went down from Rs 800 per 5kg to Rs 700 per 5kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 170 per kg against Rs 190 per kg; carrot price went up from Rs 100 per 5kg to Rs 130 per 5kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs 35 per kg against Rs 30 per kg, radish price remained stable at Rs 100 per 5kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs 25 per kg.
Brinjal price went down from Rs 400 per 5kg to Rs 350 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 80/90 per kg against Rs 100 per kg, okra price remained stable at Rs 800 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 225, pumpkin price went down from Rs 450 per 5kg to Rs 400 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 100 per kg as against Rs 110 per kg and bitter gourd price went up from Rs 700 per 5kg to Rs 850, which in retail is being sold at Rs 175/190 per kg against Rs 150 per kg.
