Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) on Monday said it had issued second reminder to four civic agencies on reports of dumping of civic waste into the sea along with Clifton beach. In a statement, SEPA said earlier it had issued notice to them in December 2019 and first reminder in January 2020 but none of them responded to the regulator as yet.

The second reminder issued individually to Cantonment Board Clifton, Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, District Municipal Committee of District South and Karachi Water and Sewerage Board. They were directed to stop the practice of dumping of solid waste into the sea in their jurisdiction.

In previous notices they were also asked to send their progress report on the subject matter and in case of non-compliance with the directives of SEPA, legal action will be initiated against them under Sindh Environmental Protection Act 2014 (SEP Act 2014). It may be pointed out that under SEP Act 2014, the director general of SEPA is empowered to take legal action against all agencies responsible for the safe disposal of solid and hazardous waste if they fail to deliver on this score.
