Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) arranged as Basic Life Support (BLS) training sessions for the general public at 48 mosques across the county, said cardiologist and In-charge PIMA Lifesaving Project Dr. Habib Aslam Gaba.
He told that majority of the cardiac arrests in our country happen at home or at workplace and many lives could be saved with simple Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training which is very simple to learn. He told that CPR is an emergency First-Aid procedure that is used to maintain respiration and blood circulation in a person, whose breathing or heartbeat suddenly stops. "This Lifesaving project was first initiated on a large scale by British Islamic Medical Association", he told and added that later, it was adopted by all doctor's associations affiliated with the Federation of Islamic Medical Association (FIMA).
Underlining the importance mosques in Muslim society, he told that it is a place of worship in Islam and is considered as ideal for training of such procedures. "This project is all the more important for third world countries like Pakistan where emergency services are none existent in far flung areas of the country", he told and added that BLS is a kind of medical care used for victims of diseases or injuries that are life-threatening up to the point that they could be provided with complete medical attention at a hospital. "Trained medical people, including emergency medical technicians, qualified first responders, and even qualified bystanders could provide CPR", he told and said that timely commencement of resuscitation and coordination of lay people along with medical personnel on facilitating an unconscious person is very useful in increasing the survival chance of the victim according to 2015 guidelines published by European resuscitation council. "If a person is unconscious and is not breathing normally, emergency services must be informed and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation (rescue breaths) should be started", he asserted.
Dr. Gaba told that Allah Almighty has not created any disease without its treatment. "Humans have been bestowed with the wisdom to find the solutions for the problems they face", he said and told that we have to do some efforts and struggle in order to cope with them efficiently.
He told that World Heart Day is a focal point of such efforts and is celebrated during the month of September all around the globe. "The World Heart Federation is the non-governmental organization which has been mandated to organize it and it is doing collaborated efforts with its partners and other members to create an awareness regarding heart health", he told and added that different activities are arranged such as lectures, scientific discussions, health and fitness gatherings in addition to organized walks and sporting events for creating desirable responsiveness from the society.
About, Faisalabad, the Basic Life Support (BLS) training session was held in the mosque of Mujahid Hospital by the Clinical Secretary of PIMA Faisalabad, Dr. Habib Aslam Gaba, Consultant Cardiologist as a Resource Person. "This training session was very informative and successful especially in light of the desired objectives of creating awareness about Basic Life Support in case of emergencies.
