The Supreme Court Bar Association and the Pakistan Bar Council have condemned the call-up notice to Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) summoning him in the fake accounts case.

The SCBA President, Syed Qalb-e-Hassan, and the PBC Vice-Chairperson, Abid Saqi, in a joint statement issued to the media on Wednesday, termed the same an act of "personal victimization, satisfying the political egoistic revenge of the incumbent government."

They said "the call-up notice was a mere reaction against the commitment shown by Bilawal Bhutto condemning the recent price hike and increasing poverty, and to the announcement made by him to launch a protest movement against the federal government's economic policies.

"It also shows the connivance between the sitting government and the NAB," they were of the view.

The statement stated that the actions being taken by the NAB at the behest of the sitting government clearly show that the NAB is "not acting independently and objectively".

Both the leaders stressed that the "tactics" being employed by the NAB in "collaboration" with the government are part of a strategy to suppress the democratic values in the country.

The SCBA president and the PBC vice-chairperson condemned the "malicious ties" between the NAB and the incumbent government aimed at political victimization of the leadership of all opposition parties.

They demanded the government stop its "unlawful designs" and focus on the welfare of the general public of the country.
