Pakistan's export of gems soared 18 percent to US$2.581 million in July-Dec 2019-20, official figures suggest. Increase in gems export comes to the tune of US$393,000 in July-Dec 2019-20 from US$2.188 million in July-Dec 2018-19, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics says.
Export volume of gems surged 100 percent or 2 metric tons to 4 metric tons in July-Dec 2019-20 from 2 metric tons in July-Dec 2018-19. Down by 60 percent or US$475, 000, gems export reached US$323,000 in Dec 2019 from 798,000 metric tons in Dec 2018.
Gems export volume remained stagnant with one metric ton this fiscal year as well. Jewelry export went down 17 percent or US$511,000 to US$2.580 million in July-Dec 2019-20 from US$3.091 million in July-Dec 2018-19. The country's jewelry export slumped 51 percent or US$298, 000 to US$290,000 in Dec 2019 from US$588,000 in Dec 2018.
