Dawood discusses ways to reduce sugar price with PSMA
Prime Minister Advisor on Commerce, Industries and Production and Investment, Abdul Razak Dawood Tuesday held a meeting with Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) and discussed ways to reduce price of sugar, well-informed sources told Business Recorder.
Ministry of Industries and Production will submit a summary to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet suggesting measures to reduce sugar price. One proposal circulating in the media is that the government will reduce GST on sugar to bring down the price.
When contacted, one of the representatives of sugar mill owners said that they just had a meeting with Razak Dawood for 15 minutes and it was just a gossip session. He said, the sugar industry is unaware of the decision the government may take as the industry has not been kept in the loop. Sugar industry opposes unlimited quantity of duty-free import of sugar.
