Clashes pitting Turkish forces and their Syrian rebel allies against pro-regime forces left 27 fighters dead Thursday including two Turkish soldiers in the northwestern Syrian province of Idlib, a war monitor reported.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 11 pro-regime fighters and 14 on the pro-Turkey side were killed as well as the two Turkish soldiers.
Ankara's defence ministry also reported two Turkish soldiers killed in fighting in Nayrab, between provincial capital Idlib and the town of Saraqeb.
Turkey's Syrian proxies and the jihadist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham jihadist group made some early gains in the Nayrab area but government troops swiftly clawed back some territory the same day.
"The Turks are supporting the rebels with their artillery, providing cover for their ground advance," the UK-based Observatory said.
Both the Turks and Syrians claimed the other had been defeated.
