Tourism sector under the spotlight
Tourism is travel; it is in fact much more than that.
That prime minister is highly optimistic about country's tourism potential is a fact. According to him, for example, Pakistan will be the destination where people will travel to find jobs. "I myself was not aware of the country's potential until I took office," the premier has been quoted by media as saying.
In this regard, the PTI government is required to seriously study the achievements made by Turkey in the tourism sector under the leadership of President Erdogan. It's however not necessary that Pakistan should fully replicate the Turkish tourism model. It can study some other tourism models as well. Sri Lanka, for example, plans to establish a new model to strengthen its tourism sector. Increased arrivals of foreign tourists in Pakistan will eventually become a reliable source of foreign exchange earning. But the government would be required to create the right infrastructure and facilities to woo foreign tourists. Moreover, the achievements made in relation to security or law and order are needed to be protected and preserved.
