The National Electric and Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) is organizing Energy Week 2020 from February 24 to 28 to look into the challenges and to suggest way forward for the power sector of Pakistan. Sessions regarding China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), generation, transmission, distribution and innovation will be held during the Energy Week.

These sessions will be attended by ambassadors, federal ministers, federal and provincial secretaries as well as national and international experts on energy.

The inaugural and CPEC session will be held on February 24 (Monday) which will be addressed by the Chairman of Nepra, Tauseef H. Farooqi, the Ambassador of China, Yao Jing, the Chairman of CPEC Authority, Lt.-General (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa, the Chairman of Wapda, Lt General (retd) Muzammil Hussain, Senator Mushahid Hussian Syed and the Federal Minister for Energy, Omar Ayub Khan.

CPEC is playing a vital role in reshaping the power sector of Pakistan.

A considerable number of hydro, coal and renewable energy projects are being executed under this programme. Generation of power in Pakistan is dependent on fossil fuels (local and imported), as well as hydel and renewable. Power is transmitted through a vast network of transmission lines and grid stations.

Electricity is provided to the consumers through a distribution network.

National and international energy experts in the above sessions of the Energy Week will deliberate upon the issues and challenges in the generation, transmission and distribution sectors. They will give suggestions for making these fields efficient, economical, affordable and reliable.

The Energy Week will provide an interface for utilities, energy providers, technology companies, national and international energy experts and key professionals of public and private sector organizations of Pakistan for some innovative solutions through knowledge sharing. The Energy Week will conclude on February 28 with closing remarks by the chairman of Nepra.
