President Arif Alvi on Satu rday anno-unced honorary citizenship and the highest civilian award for Peshawar Zalmi captain, Darren Sammy in recognition of his most important role in the restoration of international cricket in Pakistan and his love for Pakistan.
The Pakistan Cricket Board tweeted, "The President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi will confer the highest civilian award and honorary citizenship to Darren Sammy on 23rd March for his invaluable contribution to cricket in Pakistan." Javed Afridi, Chairman of Peshawar Zalmi said that Darren Sammy, who loves Pakistan, has been promised the highest civilian award and Pakistani citizenship which is a proud moment for Peshawar Zalmi as well as cricket fans across Pakistan.
In his Twitter message, Javed Afridi said, "The decision to give Darren Sammy the highest civilian award in Pakistan is truly a reflection of the feelings of lovers of cricket and Pakistan. Indeed, the services of this impeccable man are unforgettable for cricket's return to Pakistan."
In Pakistan cricket history, this honour came in the part of Peshawar Zalmi, whose captain Darren Sammy was awarded the highest civilian award by the government of Pakistan. We are thankful to the Almighty Allah and grateful to the government of Pakistan as well as our fans.
