Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) was crowned as Oil & Gas T20 Cricket Champion when they defeated Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) by convincing margin of 53 runs at Diamond Cricket Ground Islamabad.
Lt Gen Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmed (Retd) MD/CEO MPCL who was chief guest at the occasion gave away the prizes to the finalists and the glittering trophy to MPCL. While addressing the teams and a large number of cricket fans at the occasion, Gen Ishfaq said that MPCL besides its core business of Oil & Gas Exploration is committed towards the promotion of sports in the corporate sector. He highly appreciated the standard of game and sportsman spirit displayed by both the teams.
MPCL after winning the toss elected to bat first. Shehryar Firdous scored impressive 42 runs and Shahid scored 24 runs in 152 runs innings of MPCL. Tauseef Ijaz and Waqas took three wickets each from FFC.
FFC in its run chase could only score 99 runs in 17 overs. While Majid Ali and Usman Nazir bowled impressively, Irfan Nazir who was declared man of the match was pick of the bowlers taking 4 wickets for 19 runs in a match winning spell of 04 decisive overs.
Top 12 teams of Oil & Gas Sector participated in the two months long championship played on Round Robin League. Yasir Abbas of POL was declared as best batsman of tournament, while Sheraz Sarwar of APL was declared man of tournament due to his all-round performance.
