DGI&I seizes tobacco worth Rs 127 million
Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation (DGI&I), Karachi on Monday claimed to have seized huge quantity of foreign origin chewing tobacco worth Rs127.5 million.
According to details, the Directorate has received credible information that huge quantity of smuggled Indian origin, Gutka, Paan Praag etc. was dumped at various premises along Marriot Road, Karachi for onward disposal in the markets.
Reacting on this information, a team of anti-smuggling organisation in coordination with Kharadar police station raided at the said premises and confiscated the said banned goods. The total quantity of banned chewing tobaccos recovered during raid was around 11870 kilograms worth Rs127.5 million. Consequent upon recovery, the banned goods have been seized and further investigation is in progress.
