Attorney General for Pakistan Khalid Jawed Khan has emphasized upon maintaining good working relationship between Law and Justice Division and Office of the Attorney General.

In his letter to Federal Minister for Law Farogh Naseem, he wrote; "You would recall that during our meeting earlier today (February 24), you had clarified that no such action is in the offing and therefore no law officers are being terminated/appointed." "We had agreed further that we shall be working within the prescribed constitutional limits of our respective offices and that no appointments, transfers or other matters relating to the Law Officer would be taken by the Law and Justice Division without prior consent of the Attorney General for Pakistan," it reads. "Since news items have unnecessarily created confusion regarding relationship between the Law and Justice Division and the Office of Attorney General for Pakistan, you are requested that appropriate formal clarification may kindly be issued by the Law and Justice Division at the earliest for publication in the said paper," the letter said.

There was a report in a section of the press that the Law Ministry was trying to fill vacant posts of deputy attorney generals (DAGs) and standing counsel in various cities before Khalid Jawed Khan takes charge of Attorney General for Pakistan. A number of seats of DAGs and standing counsel are vacant in various cities such as two in Karachi, one in Peshawar, and a few in Lahore and Quetta. These law officers represent the federal government before provincial high courts.

Talking to reporters, Khalid Jawed said the AGP Office should be autonomous and administratively independent. He said international litigation needed to be pleaded before the international arbitration forums and courts by the AGP's office and there should be no interference from the Law Ministry.
