Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday said that the importance of Kashmir could not be denied anymore, as the United States President, Donald Trump, reiterated his mediation offer on Kashmir in New Delhi.

At the conclusion of his India's visit, President Trump reiterated his earlier offer of mediation between Pakistan and India during a news conference in New Delhi. "We talked a lot about it [Kashmir] at length today. No question it is a problem. They [Pakistan] are working on it. I said I will do whatever I can do to help because my relationship with both gentlemen [Prime Minister Imran Khan and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi] is so good. Anything I can do to mediate, I would do," Trump said in response to a question.

"They [Pakistan] are working on Kashmir. Kashmir has been a thorn in lots of people's sides for a long time. There are two sides to every story. We discussed terrorism at length today," the US president added.

Commenting on the Trump's India visit, Foreign Minister Qureshi said that US President Donald Trump had demanded of India to play a positive role in the region and extend a hand for promotion of regional peace and stability. He said that Donald Trump had expressed desire for peace and stability in the region, adding that peace and stability in south Asia was linked to resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

Qureshi said that regional peace was not possible without the resolution of the Kashmir dispute. "Nobody can deny the importance of Kashmir," the FM said. He said that the current Indian government had further complicated the complex issue of Kashmir, adding that India's August 5, 2019 steps had affected identity of Kashmir and divided it into different parts. There has been lockdown in occupied Kashmir for 206 days, he said. "In such a situation, how talks with India can be held?" Qureshi asked.

He said that the US president had told the world that Pakistan was a partner in peace in the war on terror, adding that Pakistan's progress in defeating terrorism was an example in the world. Qureshi said that Pakistan's role in the region was being lauded. He pointed that the importance of President Trump's statement that the US had a "very good relationship with Pakistan" could not be denied.

Qureshi said that Pakistan's position on the disturbance caused by the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in India could be seen by what was happening in New Delhi. "If situation worsens, the void of peace in the region can affect the whole world," he asserted, urging the Indian government to review its behavior and policy.
