Chairman of Pakistan Soap Manufacturers Association (PSMA) Zafar Mahmood has urged the government to eliminate the unjustified 7% additional custom duty (ACD) on RBD Palm Stearin, which is a basic feedstock for toilet & laundry soaps.
He said that an urgent meeting of PSMA managing committee was held to discuss the issue and pointed out that the soap industry was using inedible tallow to produce laundry soap which was being imported from India. After imposing ban on imports from India in August last year, the import of inedible tallow was also banned. On the other hand the import of inedible tallow in Pakistan was subject to Halal certification, he further said, and there was no other country from where Halal certified tallow can be imported.
