Not only did US President Donald Trump fail to strike any major trade deal with India at the end of a visit, which was, according to independent analysts, big on photo opportunities but short on substance, he also remained unsuccessful in reaching out to India's minorities in relation to universal human rights. To Indian prime minister Narendra Modi's chagrin in particular, Trump's two-day India visit was effectively overshadowed by anti-Muslim riots in India's capital.
During his visit to Asia's third largest economy, Trump's 'America First' drive had collided with Modi's 'Make in India' mantra. It is therefore quite clear that both the leaders had failed to make any meaningful progress towards comprehensive agreement.
