Pakistan Railways, Karachi Division, on Wednesday said the anti-encroachment operation to recover the remaining portion of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) could not be resumed due to a "politically backed" protest.
A Railways spokesman said in a statement that in the light of directives of the Supreme Court regarding anti-encroachment operation aimed at retrieving the requisite area for the KCR project, the said operation cannot be started due to protests led by the PPP and the PTI lawmakers.
The requisite machinery and police had been sent to the operation area on time.
Railways, with the help of Railways Police, have single-handedly planned the execution of anti-encroachment operation on Wednesday that had been postponed twice within a month owing to non-cooperation from Sindh government, said the spokesman. Prior to starting this operation, the occupants had been given notices for vacating the occupied area alongside the KCR track, he said.
