Prices of essential kitchen items have once again started moving up during this past week compared to the week before, a survey carried out by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday.

The survey observed significant increase in sugar, spices, majority of vegetables, fruits, eggs and chicken prices, which for couple of weeks, kept on reducing. During this past week, prices of these items either reached previous level or increased further.

The survey noted an increase of Rs 240 per 50kg sugar bag, which jumped up from Rs 3,760 per bag to Rs 4,000 per 50kg bag, packed branded spices such as Shan, Mehran, National and others prices went up by Rs 10 per pack from Rs 65 per pack to Rs 75 per pack, egg price went up from Rs 78 per dozen to Rs 90 per dozen in wholesale market, which in retail market are being sold at Rs 100 per dozen against Rs 85-88 per dozen and chicken price went up from Rs 5,300 per 40kg to Rs 5,600 per 40kg. Live chicken price went up from Rs 155 per kg to Rs 160 per kg, while chicken meat is available at Rs 260 per kg as against Rs 250 per kg.

However, during the week under review, Liquefied Petroleum Gas price witnessed a reduction, which came down from Rs 1,800 per domestic cylinder to Rs 1,576 per domestic cylinder.

No changes were observe in wheat flour price, which remained stable at Rs 1,100 per 25kg bag. Most of the pulses prices also remained stable; tea, salt, powdered chilies, turmeric, ghee/cooking oil, milk fresh and packed prices also remained unchanged.

Onion price went up from Rs 300 per 5kg to Rs 325 per 5kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs 80-85 per kg against Rs 75-80 per kg, potato price went up from Rs 130 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 35-40 per kg and tomato prices went up from Rs 120 per 5kg to Rs 140 per 5kg, which in retail market are being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 35 per kg.

Garlic price remained stable at Rs 1,300 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 350 per kg and ginger price went up from Rs 1,550 per 5kg to Rs 1,600 per 5kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 440 per kg against Rs 425 per kg.

Capsicum price went down from Rs 675 per 5kg to Rs 475 per 5kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 110-120 per kg as against Rs 155 per kg; Yam (arvi) price went up from Rs 600 per 5kg to Rs 670 per 5kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 140 per kg; carrot price went up from Rs 125 per 5kg to Rs 180 per 5kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 35-40 per kg, radish price went down from Rs 120 per kg to Rs 80 per kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs 25 per kg against Rs 30 per kg.

Brinjal price went further down from Rs 475 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 75-80 per kg against Rs 120 per kg, peas price went further down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 35-40 per kg against Rs 45-50 per kg, okra price went further down from Rs 750 per 5kg to Rs 600 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 190 per kg, pumpkin price went up from Rs 350 per 5kg to Rs 400 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 90-95 per kg against Rs 80-90 per kg and bitter gourd price remained unchanged at Rs 1,100 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 270 per kg.

Cauliflower price went up from Rs 125 per 5kg to Rs 140 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 35-40 per kg, cabbage price remained stable at Rs 150 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 40 per kg and beans price further went down from Rs 600 per 5kg to Rs 325 per 5kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs 70-75 per kg against Rs 130 per kg, cucumber price went further down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 55 per kg.

Overall fruit prices also witnessed an increasing trend as white apple price went up from Rs 110 per kg to Rs 115 per kg, Pakistan Kalakilo apple price went up from Rs 145 per kg to Rs 150 per kg, Iranian Kalakilo apple price went up from Rs 155 per kg to Rs 175 per kg and golden apple price went down from Rs 130 per kg to Rs 120 per kg.

Good quality banana price went up from Rs 75 per dozen to Rs 90 per dozen, normal quality banana from Rs 45-55 per dozen to Rs 60-65 per dozen, guava price went up from Rs 45-50 per kg to Rs 55-60 per kg. Various qualities of oranges are available in the range of Rs 60 per dozen to Rs 200 per dozen, pomegranates are available in the range of Rs 200-300 per kg and grapes at Rs 200 per kg. While new arrival strawberry is being sold at Rs 250-300 per kg.
