The Lahore High Court on Monday was told that the government has imposed ban on hoarding and profiteering of surgical masks in wake of the corona virus disease.
The LHC Chief Justice issued a notice to Pemra when law officer, on the matter of awareness campaign about corona virus on TV channels, said was costly for the government. He asked the court to order all private television channels to run ten-minute public service message on corona virus.
Punjab primary & secondary healthcare department in a written reply said that the provincial government has also imposed ban on personal protective equipments throughout the province for a period of two months.
It said FIRs were being registered against the hoarders and profiteers under Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act 1977 and other laws.
About public awareness campaign, the reply said that the secretary of the department widely has circulated preventive measures for corona epidemic through social, electronic and print media. It said the surgical masks were available on controlled rates.
The CJ was hearing a petition by Chairman Judicial Activism Panel Azhar Siddique against unavailability of surgical masks in market. The petition also questioned overpricing and shortage of life saving drugs at the government hospitals.
