Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday paid homage to Colonel Mujeebur Rehman who embraced martyrdom during a security forces' operation against terrorists in Tank, Dera Ismail Khan. "Foiling the nefarious designs of terrorists, Colonel Mujeebur Rehman embraced martyrdom during the operation launched against them," a statement from the Prime Minister's Office quoted the PM as having said.
"The entire nation recognizes the sacrifices of the armed forces and security agencies in their fight against the terrorism. It is by virtue of the unprecedented sacrifices of the security forces that the menace of terrorism has been eliminated and the candle of peace has been alighted in Pakistan," the statement said.
The PM prayed for the martyred colonel and extended his condolences to the bereaved family. Separately, President Arif Alvi also paid homage to the martyred officer of the Pakistan Army. "The security forces [have] rendered unprecedented sacrifices to weed out the scourge of terrorism from Pakistan. The entire nation is fully united and committed in this war," he said in a statement.
The president also prayed for the martyred solider and for patience to the bereaved family, the statement added. According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the security forces foiled a major terrorist activity in DI Khan on Monday.
On confirmed intelligence about planning of a terrorist activity, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) on a terrorist hideout near Tank, DI Khan, the ISPR said. As soon as troops cordoned the area, terrorists opened fire. During operation two terrorists (high-value targets) killed.
In intense exchange of fire, Colonel Mujeebur Rehman embraced Shahadat. During sanitization operation, a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from terrorist hideout. Colonel Mujeebur Rehman Shaheed hailed from Bunji, District Astore. "He is survived by a widow, three sons and a daughter," the statement said.
