Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Monday that women journalists were an "important pillar" of Pakistan's media who needed to step ahead and play an active part for the betterment of the country.
"Women journalists have played a key role in transforming challenges into opportunities. Worldwide, there are a lot of challenges for the media in general and women journalists in particular. I am proud to say that our women journalists are braving the odds and performing their duties with diligence and courage," she said, addressing a training workshop for women journalists in Islamabad. She said a conducive environment is mandatory to highlight the potential of women journalists.
Awan said that the federal government's Information Services Academy was going to take a leading role in training of journalists and media persons, especially women journalists. She said the dream of free and responsible media could not be achieved unless women play the role of a vanguard.
