The Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination on Wednesday asked the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination to share all the relevant details regarding its anti-polio drive across the country including the number of children vaccinated, and the number of children that are yet to be vaccinated.

In this regard, the committee has also asked the ministry to give a thorough presentation on the percentage/coverage of immunization/vaccination of children under the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) in the country as well as a separate report on the statistics of the polio programme, and the steps being taken to control the damage that has been done in recent past resulting in higher number of cases.

The decision was taken in the committee's meeting under the chair of Khushbakht Shujaat, held at the Parliament House.

The committee also discussed in detail a host of issues including the matter involving the alleged discrimination in promotion cases at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), mushroomed growth of private hospitals and clinics in Islamabad, appointments at Health Services Academy, delay in functioning of a healthcare authority, promotion of medical students to next classes in case of compartment of paper(s).

The committee recommended that the budget session allowance should be granted to the doctors and paramedical staff, appointed at the Parliament House, for performing their duties beyond their official timings during the federal budget session, on the same patterns other government employees are given allowances for performing duties in excess of their official working hours.

The ministry assured the committee that the doctors and paramedical staff would be provided allowance for performing additional duties during budget session, and that the delay in this regard occurred due to lack of finances for the provision of which a summary has been moved.
