The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Thursday wasted 1,500 litres of adulterated milk being transported from Phool Nagar to different local shops in the provincial metropolis.
PFA Director General Irfan Memon said that the Authority is taking a strict action against milk adulterators; his teams have examined 5,000 litre of milk and contaminated milk was disposed of during the inspection through a mobile laboratory.
Meanwhile, the PFA sealed 12 eateries, penalized dozens of food business operators besides wasting a huge quantity of unwholesome food across Punjab.
According to details, the PFA Gujranwala team closed down Shahbaz Spices Packing unit for poor storage system, bad hygiene condition and failing to produce medical certificates. Apart from that, the Authority recovered a huge quantity of tainted red chilli. The dairy safety teams also wasted 3,500 litre adulterated milk in Gujranwala division. In south Punjab, the dairy safety teams under the supervision of Director Operations South Shahzad Magsi carried out an operation against milk adulterators and sealed a milk collection centre in Jhala Mor after wasting a huge quantity of chemically contaminated milk.
The PFA Lodhran team sealed Attiq and Brothers Traders for selling expired food and poor cleanliness arrangements. In Bahawalnagar, the team shutdown Pak Tea Company for violating labelling law, selling coloured tea leaves and the presence of washroom in the processing area. Two local stores were also sealed in Khanawal and Raheem Yar Khan.
The Authority shutdown New Sargodha Marketing for grinding fungus effected chilli and adding colour in it. The team had found the contamination of bran and other unhygienic ingredients. A team of PFA also sealed Niazi Karyana Store due to selling expired biscuits and nimko. In Khuhsab, Zam Zam Karyana Store was closed down by the PFA on account of fake labelling. It also stopped the production of Fatima Foods, Allah Daad Khoya, Abdul Rehman Daal Mill and Babar Bloch Daal by imposing EPOs. A food safety team raided Al-Saddiq Traders in Chakwal and sealed it for preparing chickpea with matri daal, poor storage system and unhygienic conditions. PFA also sealed Mahana Sweets over contamination in sweet. In another raid, Chaudhry Chicken Shop was shut down over violation of the Act.
Moreover, the PFA's enforcement teams confiscated 5000kg of sugar, 800kg of daal chana, 500kg of matri chickpea and 200kg of banaspati ghee.
