Multan Sultans successfully defended an easy target of 155 runs, defeating Peshawar Zalmi by three runs in the Pakistan Super League matcher here on Friday.
Chasing the relatively easy target of 155 runs considering batting wicket at National Stadium Karachi (NSK), Peshawar Zalmi, who played the match with local players after withdrawal of its five foreign players from the tournament due to coronavirus threats, remained three runs short to grab the victory.
Zalmi's batting shambled after Imam (fourth wicket) in 17 overs at the score of 123 when they needed 28 of 18 balls. Imam played 56 of 41 balls with four boundaries and two sixes.
The inform Kamran Akmal, who opened the innings with Imam, was wrapped by Irfan in his first over. He was bowled at the score of 2 runs.
Surprisingly, Zalmi's captain Wahab came on the crease at number three. This unexpected move did not yield fruits for the Zalmi as Wahab gave a catch at first slip to Moeen Ali on Tanvir's length ball in 2.3 overs at the total of 8 runs. Later, Imam dragged the innings with Shoaib Malik to 127 runs when Imam was caught by Shan on Tanvir in 16.4 overs. Shoaib play 30 runs before he was caught by Afridi at point on Ali Shafiq who took Haider in same over. Hammad was caught by Zeeshan on Sohail, who grabbed two wickets. Ali took two wicket while Moen and Irfan grabbed one each.
Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and invited Multan Sultans to bat first.
Multan Sultans, who stand top on the points table and qualified for knockout stage, sent Zeeshad Ashraf and Rohail Nazir to open the innings. The opening duo fail to provide a solid start to their side as Rohail got a nick and was caught by the keeper on Rahat's ball at the score of 32 runs. He played 14 of 14 with two boundaries. Zeeshan Ashraf looked impressive with seven boundaries. He played 52 runs knock of 39 balls and got tiny top edge and was caught by the keeper on Rahat in 11.3 overs. Rahat bowled out Moin Ali in same on duck at the score of 92 runs.
Multan's fourth wicket fell down in Aamir's third over when Bopara was caught by Hammad at cover. He made only 5 runs.
The inning of Multan's captain Shan Masood ended at the score of 28 in 14.4 overs when he got leading edge on Hassan and caught by Umar Amin at cover. He hit three boundaries.
Shahid Afridi who hit a boundary and a six gave his wicket to Wahab when he mistimed the shot and was caught by Umar Amin at cover at the score of 134 runs. He played 19 runs of 13 balls. Khushdil's 30 of 20 balls dragged Sultans to put an easy total of 154/6 in 20 overs.
