The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to increase the consultative process among the party legislators and office-bearers following the meetings of the PML-N MPAs with CM Sardar Usman Buzdar and Punjab Governor Ch Muhammad Sarwar a few days ago.
Sources in the PML-N claimed that pressure is mounting on the PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif within the party for returning to the country to keep the party united. Shahbaz has been requested by the party loyalists to rush back immediately and stop the MPAs from flying out of PML-N camp, the sources added.
The sources claimed that the PML-N has decided to hold party conventions at district levels to expose the poor performance of the PTI government especially on economic front.
In this regard, former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah and Rana Tanvir have been assigned duties by the party leadership. "Maryam Nawaz may also be entrusted duty in this regard," the sources said.
It may be noted that PML-N Punjab General Secretary Awais Leghari has already served the notices on the party MPAs Nishat Ahmed Daha (Khanewal), Faisal Niazi (Khanewal), Mohammad Arshad (Bahawalnagar), Azhar Abbas (Muzaffargarh), Abu Hafas Ghayasuddin (Narowal) and Chaudhry Ashraf (Gujranwala) for meeting with CM Buzdar and praising PM Khan.
A PML-N leader said that these MPAs were elected on the symbol of 'tiger' but violated their oath by meeting the PTI leadership. He said PM Khan on the one hand spoke against forward bloc in parties and on the other hand was promoting it. He said the party is united and efforts aimed at defection in the PML-N will never succeed.
Analysts believe that the concern of the PML-N is to keep the party united and win the next local bodies elections. A formal forward bloc in the opposition PML-N in the Punjab Assembly may emerge if Shahbaz does not return or party command in Punjab is handed over to Rana Sanaullah, Rana Tanvir or any other leader, they said.
On the other hand, the sources closed to six PML-N MPAs who met the CM Punjab said their meeting was aimed at developing their respective areas and in the interests of people of their constituencies.
