The National Assembly Speaker, Asad Qaiser, has expressed serious concern over airlines receiving extra fare from passengers traveling to Saudi Arabia. The NA speaker contacted Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan and expressed his concern on additional charges being received by the airlines from Pakistani passengers.
The Saudi government last Thursday announced to impose a temporary lockdown in the country, informing airlines that all tourists and pilgrims should leave the country within 72 hours. Pakistanis who hold an iqamah or Saudi Arabia's residency have the choice to either stay in the country or return there within 72 hours or leave it within the same timeframe.
The speaker said that in this hour of difficulty, every possible facility would be ensured for Pakistani passengers traveling to Saudi Arabia. He said that it was regrettable to see the airlines increasing the fares. The NA speaker said that an arrangement of special flights should be made to take passengers to Saudi Arabia.
Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan assured the speaker to operate special flights for Pakistani passengers traveling to Saudi Arabia. He said that six special flights would be operated to return passengers from Saudi Arabia. The minister assured the NA speaker that all passengers traveling to Saudi Arabia would be charged fare on a regular basis.
