The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has accepted the application of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) to rename the party from JUI-F to only JUI. The JUI application was heard by a four-member bench of the ECP headed by Justice (retired) Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi here on Monday, which was represented by Advocate Kamran Murtaza on behalf of the JUI-F. Advocate Kamran Murtaza said that his party had pleaded for the change of party name from JUI-F to only JUI, saying that the "F" should be removed from the party name.
The ECP, while accepting the JUI-F application settled the matter. The party divided into two, JUI Fazlur Rehman and the JUI Samiul Haq following the death of Mufti Mahmood Ahmed in 1980s. After the assassination of JUI-S chief Maulana Samiul Haq in 2018, efforts have been made to unite both factions of the JUI under one banner; as the JUI-S group never won major chunk of seats in the provincial or national assemblies compared with the Maulana Fazlur Rehman-led JUI-F.
