The government said on Thursday uniform syllabus has been finalised for grade one to grade five for implementation from March 2021. Prime Minister Imran Khan, who chaired a meeting on uniform education system in the country, was also informed that Ministry of Education has arranged seven-hour education transmission through the Pakistan Television following coronavirus pandemic and consequent closure of schools and suspension of educational activities.
Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood, secretary Education and other senior officials informed the prime minister that uniform syllabus has been finalised with the help of institutions such as Cambridge, Aga Khan and the LUMS. The meeting was told uniform syllabus for grade one to five would be implemented by 2021, grade 6th to 8th by 2022, and grade 9th to 12th by 2023.
The meeting was further told that the government after coming to power formed a National Curriculum Council with representatives from provinces, private sector, religious schools, and experts. Additionally, working group-level team with professionals and experts having expertise in their respective fields was also constituted and finally got on board institutions such as Cambridge, Aga Khan and the LUMS for preparation of uniform syllabus.
The prime minister termed the different education system for different classes the primary cause of division in the society, and stated that class system education and other discriminations have led to division in educational institutions, education standard and created division in teachers as well as students.
The premier further stated that class discrimination has led to developing a social and cultural system that protects the interests of a specific class. The prime minister assured the Ministry of Education all out support by the federal government for implementation of a uniform curium in the country to eliminate the class system.
