With 16 more fresh cases, the total number of coronavirus positive cases in the province of Punjab has reached to 96. So far, 71 of the cases have been reported from Zaireen who traveled to the province from the Pakistan-Iran border at Taftan, 15 from Lahore, two from Multan, three from Muzaffargarh, one from Rawalpindi, three from Gujrat and one from Jhelum.
While more cases of coronavirus are surfacing, authorities concerned have beefed up precautionary measures to tackle the emergent situation. The Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (PSHD) has purchased protective equipment having worth Rs 217 million from allocation of Rs 236 million.
The department has purchased gowns having worth Rs 160 million, N95 facemask for Rs 20 million, gloves Rs 9.3 million and surgical masks for Rs 1.1 million to be used in coronavirus emergency.
Similarly, PSHD has spent Rs 8.4 million for special glasses, Rs 4.46 million for shoe covers, and Rs0.70 million for long shoes and Rs 3.5 million to purchase sanitizer. Furthermore, face shields worth Rs 2.9 million, examination gloves worth Rs 1.2 million and surgical gloves have been purchased against Rs 4.84 million.
Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has assigned duties to provincial ministers, advisors and special assistants to review steps being taken for controlling coronavirus.
The CM has directed the ministers, advisors, special assistants to immediately visit their assigned districts and submit daily reports after reviewing steps being taken in collaboration with district administration, health and other line departments.
Moreover, Information Minister Punjab Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan has urged people from all walks of life, especially belonging to politics and media, to act sensibly to spread positivity and hope among their followers.
As per directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief Minister is constantly monitoring the whole situation and Buzdar government will take necessary administrative decisions as per the changing situation, he said.
He said that three quarantine hospitals with a collective capacity of more than 800 beds have been established at Urology Hospital Rawalpindi, Punjab Kidney Liver Institute Lahore and District Headquarters Hospital Muzaffargarh.
