Partial lockdown observed in Peshawar
A partial lockdown was observed in the provincial metropolis Monday as precautionary measure to prevent outbreak Corona virus. However groceries, pharmacies and fruit and vegetable shops remained open to provide essential items to people.
Major commercial centers, shopping malls and restaurants inside the city have been closed leading to suspension of business routine activities in busy Meena Bazaar, Shaheen Bazaar, Jhanda Bazar, Kisa Khwani, Khyber Bazaar, Kohat Gate, Sarki Gate, Phando Road, Dalazak Road, GT Road, University Road, Board Bazar, Hayatabad and Karkhano market. Similar reports were also pouring from other districts wherein business and other routine day to day activities remained suspended.
The inter-districts commuters' transport also remained suspended and commuters were facing hardships in transportation to their native towns. However, taxies were transportation people in violation of the precautionary measures and were also overcharging them.
The provincial government had announced the closure of markets and shopping malls for three days from March 22 to 24 as part of precautionary measures being adopted against the Corona Virus. Meanwhile, Traffic Police carried out operation against the violation of ban on inter-district transportation and closed down General Bus Stands and Kohat Road Bus stands as precautionary measure against the outbreak of the novel COVID-19.
Meanwhile, KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan visited Quarantine Centre established for pilgrims from Iran at Duranpur, a suburban locality of the city. The facility has a space for 150 persons in case of need it could be further enhanced. The centre has one room for each pilgrim along with other facilities. The staff deployed at the centre had restricted themselves only to those quarantined at the centre.
The Chief Minister has expressed satisfaction over arrangements at the centre and appreciated the efforts of the district administration and health authorities.
