The Chairman of Pakistan Chemical and Dyes Merchant Association (PCDMA) and a former director of the Karachi Stock Exchange, Amin Yousuf Balgamwala, said that due to lockdown in the city commercial importers are unable to collect imported goods especially the industrial raw material from the port, and the imported goods are piling up at the ports, which can affect the supply of raw materials to textile, pharma and other industries.
He urged the government to give access to the port so that the commercial importers could collect their imported goods.
He pointed out that the port and customs were open but due to the serious situation and lockdown caused by the coronavirus commercial importers were unable to collect the goods from the ports.
He said that commercial importers had been facing port and other charges and fines per day which were increasing day by day.
Amin Yousuf Balgamwala urged Prime Minister Imran Khan and Federal Minister for Ports & Shipping Ali Zaidi to withdraw the port charges for at least one to two months and also waive off late GD filling and bank charges.
He said that in the present circumstances, commercial importers could not afford to pay demurrage, detention charges, fines, so withdraw all these charges as they are facing severe financial crisis.
