Mayor distributes food
Mayor of Karachi Wasim Akhtar on Tuesday distributed food in UC-26, I. I. Chundrigar Road and directed the union committee chairmen to do the same in their areas.
Talking to media after reviewing fumigation in the Burns Road area, Akhtar hailed UC-26 chairman for arranging food for 800 people of the locality on a daily basis.
"Imtiaz has done an exemplary work and other local bodies representatives should also follow in his footsteps. A person is being served for just 10 to 20 rupees for breakfast and meal so as to ensure their self-respect," he added.
The mayor said that another drive was launched from Tuesday in which fumigation would be done around food streets and other eateries so that the people could be provided a healthy environment.
"Today fumigation was done near the Sindh Assembly, the Sabzi Mandi, the Pakistan Chowk and other adjacent areas," said Akhtar. He said that very effective a disinfectant machine sprayed at corners, footpaths and streets.
The residents of Burns Road and its adjacent areas appreciated the city government efforts and expressed their satisfaction in the measures adopted by the KMC.
Akhtar asked everyone to play their due role, terming it essential to overcome the current situation. "It is the responsibility of each citizen to cooperate with the governments in this regard," he said. Meanwhile, the mayor visited the Khidmat-e-Khalq head office and received a truck full of flour bags donated by Bahria Town.
