Gilgit Baltistan (GB) approved on Wednesday a summary requesting that Dr Usama Riaz who died from coronavirus, be given Pakistan’s highest civil award.
GB governor Raja Jalal Hussain approved the summary. Dr Riaz was working at a medical facility screening pilgrims returning to Pakistan from the Pakistan-Iran border at Taftan.
The doctor fell ill after he returned from work, and was placed on a ventilator after his test came positive. He died on May 22. Dr Riaz was the first doctor in the country to die from coronavirus.
