Pakistan opens Afghanistan border for trade

Pakistan has opened the Pak-Afghan border for trade on humanitarian considerations after the special request from the Afghanistan government on Friday.

As per details, 100 containers and trucks will be transported to Afghanistan from Pakistan after custom clearance by the Pakistani authorities. However, no truck or any person from Afghanistan is allowed to enter Pakistan.

“Responding to Afghanistan Government’s special request, and based on humanitarian considerations, it has been decided to facilitate the movement of cargo trucks and containers to cross-over into Afghanistan through Torkham and Chaman border crossing points thrice a week (on Monday, Wednesday and Friday) from 10 April 2020 onwards,” read a statement from the Foreign Office.

“As a neighbor and in view of fraternal relations, Pakistan remains in abiding solidarity with the people of Afghanistan, particularly at this time of the global pandemic,” it added.

According to security sources, the Pak-Afghan Chaman border will be open for trade for three days in a week, and the containers will depart after customs clearance.

On April 2, the border was closed for all kinds of traffic, in the wake of the potential rise in cases of the Coronavirus. After the border closure, Afghan transit traders were trapped.
