According to media reports, Spain has reported 605 new deaths, bringing the country's toll to 15,843 as the number of worldwide deaths approaches 100,000 mark. One must not, however, lose sight of the fact that 605 is the lowest daily tally since March 23 in this south European country. The US is nearing the 17,000 deaths mark. The images of a mass grave in New York City, in my view, are the most heart-rending. In this grave, about two dozen bodies are buried every day, five days a week. Hart Island has been used to bury New Yorkers with no next of kin. When will life come back to normal in the world? There is no clear answer to this question. But one thing, however unfortunate, is quite clear: coronavirus is not going to disappear anytime soon.
