Rumman puts his ‘Pakistan shirt’ for auction, seeks donations for needy people

• The 28-year-old is running a charity himself along with his friends, which is aimed to help out the needy people affected during coronavirus lockdown.

Pakistan fast bowler Rumman Raees has announced to put his Pakistan shirt, which he wore on his debut, and other merchandises for auction, as he looks to generate donations for needy people affected from novel coronavirus.

As many as over 125,000 people were killed while over million infected by the deadly bug across the globe. In Pakistan the numbers as compared to rest of the world are quite low with over 5500 cases reported across the country.

The 28-year-old is running a charity himself along with his friends, which is aimed to help out the needy people affected during coronavirus lockdown.

In this challenging situation so far, the cricketer managed to provide ration to at least 6000 families across Pakistan and vowed to continue the noble cause with the help of privileged citizens of the country.

“Coronavirus was a setback,” said Rumman in an interview. “We have to be patient in this time and we have follow SOPs given by the government and stay home.”

“Although it is quite difficult for the daily wagers, people facing unemployment, and lack of resources at their homes.”

Commenting on his charity work, the Champions trophy winning squad member said he used to do such activity in month of Ramadan, but due to the developing situation after coronavirus, his team was forced to start a bit earlier.

One of his close friend and team member of his charity work, Fahad Shakeel shading light on their decision to go out help less privileged people said they were contacted for ration by the people who they used to help in Ramadan.

“After Rumman pitched me the idea to do some charity in nearby places, we were contacted by the people seeking ration,” said Fahad. “Likewise, we started with 35 to 40 bags of ration which were in our personal capacity.”

“This is how it all started.”

Rumman added: “Fellow cricketers, other organisation and overseas Pakistanis have made it possible so far and we would like to continue it in month of Ramadan with their help.”

Sharing his charity experience he said, “Multiple family from other parts of the country approached us. We tried to help them out in our capacity.”

“Here, I want to share story about Khanewal, where people contacted us only for rice and wheat. We deliver both items to them which is enough for about 150 to 200 families.

“A fellow cricketer approached me in this specific cause and he took care of the transportation of the items for us. This is how we are operating so far,” he added.

“Similarly a few families from rural areas of the country also approached us for ration, but means of transport was impossible. So we delivered them cash via easypaisa or directly deposited to their accounts,” said Islamabad United star.

Calling out Pakistanis for donations, he urged them to donate as much as they can under their capacity to help out the people in need during this pandemic.
