ISLAMABAD: The USAID has decided to provide 100 water tube well machines to help the Capital Development Authority and city administration cope with severing water shortage for the federal capital.

"The USAID would provide 100 new water pumps to replace the old ones. The CDA has been directed to take concrete measures for provision of uninterrupted portable water to the residents and replace old tube-well pumps," said Prime Minister's Chief Coordinator on Islamabad's Affairs Faisal Sakhi Butt while talking to the media.

He said the CDA has also initiated work on establishment of another eight water filtration plants in different areas of the city. Of these, two water filtration plants would soon be inaugurated.

He said the authorities concerned have been directed to cope with the problem of water shortage and the tanker service should be improved to facilitate the residents.

He said that CDA should formulate a comprehensive plan for tackling the water problems as residents are facing serious issue in this connection especially in sectors of G and I series.

Faisal Butt said the CDA has been asked to furnish a workable plan for the future development in the city and up-gradation of the slums in different areas of Islamabad.

The CDA has also been directed to initiate a pilot project in this regard in line with the experiences of the municipalities of the world for resolving the issues of the slums in the city.

The Chief Coordinator said the approval of the proposals by the federal cabinet regarding the public-private partnerships would prove to be a milestone in expeditious and quality future development.

He said all the modern metropolitans around the world make joint ventures with the private sectors to execute development projects as the government alone could not fund and complete projects in wake of prevailing recession.

The Chief Coordinator said the slums in the capital city are an eye-sour and a concrete solution to the benefit of both the government and the slum dwellers needs to be worked out.

He said the dwellers having the C-Number in the katchi abadis should be given NOC for the utilities till some comprehensive plan for these dwellers as implemented.

The PM's Chief Coordinator also asked the civic body to revamp the advertisements and branding policy to increase the revenues and enhancing beauty through uniform designing of hoardings, billboards and other advertisement.

He said that a proposal for restricting advertisements at certain places and banning the cloth banners in the capital city should be brought in the appropriate forum for consideration.
