Chairman of Indus Motor Company (IMC) Ali Suleman Habib on Friday passed away in Karachi. He was 63. He was admitted to a private hospital in Karachi on March 31, 2020 where he breathed his last. He was suffering from acute pancreatitis that led to organ failure.

Ali headed the operations of the House of Habib, a business conglomerate that has several successful businesses functioning under its umbrella. Apart from heading IMC, country's one the leading automobile companies, Ali also served as a member on the board of directors of Thal Limited, Shabbir Tiles & Ceramics Limited, Habib Metropolitan Bank Limited and Metro Habib Cash and Carry Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited.

He was the founding chairman of the Young Presidents Organisation Pakistan Chapter, and chairman of the Pakistan Business Council. He was also a member of the Board of Governors of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust.

Ali was a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, USA. He also attended the Management Development Programme (MDP) at Harvard University. Business community, politicians and others expressed profound grief over his sad demise.

Pakistan Business Council in its tweet stated: "The Pakistan Business Council regrets to announce that Mr. Ali Suleman Habib, Founder, Past Chairman and Director of the PBC passed away in Karachi this evening."

Ali Zaidi tweeted: "Pakistan today lost a great entrepreneur, and we all lost a good friend. May Allah rest you in Janat ul Firdous Ali Habib."

Ahsan Iqbal in his tweet said: "Extremely sad on the news of Mr. Ali Habib's death. He was a good friend & very patriotic industrialist, who contributed immensely in the development of Pakistan. May Allah Bless his soul & Grant patience to his family. Ameen!" Miftah Ismail tweeted: "Very saddened to hear of the passing of Mr Ali Habib.

A good friend, a very decent man and a captain of industry, he left us all too soon. May Allah rest his soul in peace and give his family and friends the fortitude to bear his loss. We will all greatly miss him."
